He is the Sayyid Hasanayn bin al-Sayyid Husayn al-Tahamy. He is from the grandsons of the Sayyid Sinjir and whose lineage goes back to the Sayyid Hasan son of the Imam Ali bin Abee Talib and our Lady Fatimah al-Zahra (may God be pleased with them all).
He was born (may God be pleased with him) in the year 1265 AH in Kafr al-Husafa in Qalyubeyya, which is where his name comes from. In the past scholars would be named by the names of their respective countries of origin. He acquired both intellectual and transmitted knowledge from al-Azhar University. He dedicated himself to this knowledge and mastered them at the hands of scholars who practically applied their knowledge in their own lives like Shaykh Hasan al-Marsafa and others.
Then he (may God be pleased with him) inclined to Sufism and treaded the path committing himself to many gnostic shaykhs. The first of them being the Shaykh Muhammad al-Shadhili al-Fasy, the Shaykh Muhammad Aleesh the Mufti of the Sada al-Malikiya (Experts of the Maliki legal heritage) and the Shaykh Hasan al-Adawy al-Hamzawy (may God be pleased with them all and their respective chains that link them back to the Emissary of Godﷺ. After becoming an ocean of knowledge Allah aided in his migration from his family and country for the sake of guiding his fellow people. He traveled the lands calling and directing people to Allah and raising the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammadﷺ in importance in the hearts of his listeners.
He had been involved in many Sufi paths but he became known for his commitment to and teaching of the Shadhili and Tijani paths. Many Muslims traveled to see him from all over the world coming from the far western countries like Morocco and Tunisia to learn from him the Sufi way as it ought to be. Allah therefore increased him and supported him to revive the Sufi path and uproot anything that contradicted the sacred law.
The Shaykh authored many books (may God be pleased with him).
*Al Sabeel al-Wadih liman ragheeba al-Taawuz min al-Wuqu fee Al Fada’ih.
*Noor al-Basa’ir Wa al-Absar, feema yajib marifatuhu fee al-Tawheed Ala Kul Mukalaf min Faajir wa Barr. In this book he explains all the creeds and their respective intellectual and transmitted proofs.
*He explained “al-Watheefa al-Zarooqia” written by al-Sayyid Ahmed Zarruq
*He explained “al-Watheefa al-Mamzooja bee Salat Sayid Abdul Salam bin Masheesh”
*He explained “al-Yaqootia” by al-Sayid Muhammad al-Fasy
*He explained the three Hizbs of Abu Hasan al-Shazuli: Hizbul Bir, Hizbul Bahr, and Hizubul Nasr
He returned to his Lord (may God be pleased with him) in the year 1328 AH.
