Location: al-Azzazy – Faqoos
Sayyid Azzaz is the son of al-Sayid Muhammad al-Bata’eehy who is buried at Mount Mintar in Gaza. His grandfather is the Sayyid Azzaz al-Akbar whose tomb is located in Aleppo and whose lineage goes back to Imam al-Husayn grandson of the Emissary of Godﷺ.
When the Sayyid Azzaz outgrew the local circles of knowledge his father took him to Sayyid Ahmed al-Rifa’ee in a place called Um Ubayda, the capital of the pious worshippers at the time in Iraq. He learned from him the knowledge of the path as well as received knowledge of the sacred law from contemporary scholars in the area. Afterwards, he began practicing asceticism and Allah gave him abilities to break customary experience until he began exhibiting miracles. He became a Muqadim for his teacher rising in stations until his Imam, Ahmed al-Rifa’ee, said about him: “Azzaz is truly in my eyes a shining sun, when he rises his light reaches all corners of the world. If you knew truly the blessing of Azzaz you would have kissed the ground that his feet tread.”
He passed away (may God be pleased with him) on the 12th of Rabee’a al-Awal in the year 580 AH.
